The Township Retail Investment Summit (TRIS) is back with double the programme, double the insight and double the collaboration.
TRIS believes in the township space and the future of its entrepreneurs.
The 2023 event aims to explore both the opportunities and challenges of investing in this space with keynote speakers, industry experts and panel discussions over a two-day programme.
“This year’s event aims to explore township as the last mile in retail and to investigate ways to create accessibility and connectivity as we continue to work towards a better future for all South Africans,” explains CEO of Exemplar, Jason McCormick.
First hosted in November 2022, TRIS was the vision of township dreamers Lekau Sehoana (Drip), Rita Zwane (Imbizo Shisanyama), Miles Kubheka (Wakanda) and Jason McCormick (Exemplar REITail) who believe in the power of the township space and the future of its entrepreneurs.
The success of the 2022 event has resulted in an extended two-day programme that will provide further insights and evidence into the potential of the township and rural retail environment. Building on the momentum of 2022, we want to connect township retail opportunities with the retail vision of the future.
Hosted by renowned entrepreneur Miles Kubheka, the programme is geared towards entrepreneurs, retailers, funders and investors.
“This year we will host our first ‘Kasipreneur Pitch Session’ which will see four local brands given the opportunity to pitch their business to a judging panel. The winner will receive 12 months free rental in one of Exemplar’s shopping centres in Gauteng,” explains Miles.
TRIS will take place on Thursday 31 August and Friday 1 September at Alex Mall, on the corner of London Road and the N3 in Gauteng, for safe and convenient access.
The programme includes appearances by the renowned Dr Mamphela Ramphele, Bulelani Balabala, Suren Naidoo, Godiragetse Fareed Mogajane, Orin Roesstorff, Loyiso Vatsha and Rita Zwane amongst others.
